no heat from gas furnace
You have tried turning on the gas furnace and unfortunately no heat is coming from the furnace. We recommend checking a few things first to trouble shoot the heating issue.
1. Have you checked to make sure the thermostat for your heater is not set too low? If the thermostat is not set higher than the current room temperature the heater will not turn on.
2. Next we recommend you go out to your circuit breaker box and check to see if the circuit breaker was tripped (flipped to the off position). If so reset the circuit breaker. If you see that a fuse is blown, replace the fuse. Check both the main electrical panel and any secondary sub-panels that supply power to the furnace. If the circuit blows again, there is a probably a short in the electrical system providing power to the furnace. Call a contractor if you think this is the issue.
3. Check that the furnace’s power switch is turned on; it should be located next to or inside the furnace cabinet. If it isn’t on, turn it on and wait for the furnace to start.
4. The pilot light may have gone out or the gas valve may be shut off. If the pilot light is out, see our guide for lighting a gas pilot furnace. Make sure the gas valve is open.
5. The furnace motor may have overloaded. Look for a “Reset” button near the furnace housing and press it. If nothing happens, wait about 30 minutes for the motor to cool, and then try the “Reset” button again.
6. If you still can not get the furnace started it could be a problem with the thermostat. Check out our guide for trouble shooting a faulty thermostat.
7. Lastly, if none of the above have helped you solve the heating repair issue, it’s time to call a local heating contractor!
